As the youngest of five brothers and the cherished favorite of five sisters, he embodied the spirit of familial love and connection. Although he was unable to complete his college education, Mittal understood the transformative power of learning and ensured that his children and grandchildren would receive the best education possible.

With an unwavering commitment to his family's growth and development, Mittal fostered a legacy of educational aspirations. He believed in the potential of every individual to excel and encouraged his children and grandchildren to pursue academic excellence. Rahul Mittal, his grandson, remembers him as the first to inquire about school performance and continuously supported Rahul's participation in music and other extracurricular activities. Each day, without fail, Mittal dropped Rahul and his sister off at the school bus stop, demonstrating his dedication to their education and well-rounded growth.

Driven by his passion for science and food technology, Mittal's impact extended beyond the realm of education. He revolutionized the traditional Indian pickle industry with his innovative recipes for condiments and ketchups, leaving a flavorful imprint on the culinary landscape.

Survived by his loving wife Suman, children Sandeep and Shilpa, and grandchildren Rahul and Anshika, Mittal's legacy persists despite his passing in 2021 due to COVID-19. His spirit lives on through the achievements and aspirations of his descendants.

In honor of Rajendra Mittal's enduring dream of "education for all" and holistic personal development, the Rajendra Mittal International Excellence Award has been established at Florida International University. This scholarship is dedicated to FTIC international students in STEM fields, with a special preference for those enrolled in the Honors College and College of Engineering and Computing.
